Sharad Navratri in 2023 is set to commence on October 15, 2023. The first day of Navratri, known as 'Ghatsthapana,' marks the ceremonial installation of the Kalash or pot, symbolizing the initiation of this revered festival.
On the day of Ghatsthapana, an uninterrupted flame known as Akhand Jyoti is kindled and continues to burn throughout the nine days. The auspicious timing for Ghatsthapana in the upcoming year is from 11:43:47 AM to 12:29:49 PM on October 15th, lasting for 46 minutes.

Sharad Navratri 2023: Rules for Kalash Sthapana Certain guidelines are associated with the ceremonial installation of the Kalash (pot) during Sharad Navratri. Adhering to these guidelines is believed to attract the auspicious blessings of Navratri. Here are the regulations:Kalash Sthapana should be performed after identifying the auspicious Muhurat for Navratri.
The ceremony should not take place at night or on the day of Amavasya.
The most propitious timing for Kalash Sthapana occurs after one-third of the Pratipada Tithi has passed.
If circumstances prevent the ceremony during the specified Muhurat, the Abhijit Muhurat can be considered. However, for Sharad Navratri in 2023, Abhijit Muhurat for Kalash Sthapana is unavailable.
Items Required for Kalash Sthapana To perform Kalash Sthapana, specific items are essential. Knowing these items will help you prepare for the ritual correctly. You will need a red cloth, a clay pot, barley, clay, a water-filled Kalash (pot), cardamom, cloves, camphor, sacred thread (Mauli), vermilion (Roli), betel leaves, rice, coins, five mango leaves or Ashoka leaves, a coconut, a Chunari (veil), Sindoor (vermilion), fruits, a garland of flowers, and items for the Goddess' Sringar.
Correct Way to Perform Kalash Sthapana Here is the proper method to perform Kalash Sthapana:Bathe during the Pratipada time.
Clean the temple area and invoke Lord Ganesha. Ignite the Akhand Jyoti and dedicate it to Goddess Durga, ensuring it burns continuously for the nine days.
Place clay in a clay pot and incorporate the specified items into it.
Create a Swastika on a copper vessel using vermilion (roli) and secure it with a sacred thread (mauli).
Fill the vessel with water, adding Ganga water.
Introduce one and a quarter rupees, incense, betel leaves, and akshat (sacred rice).
Attach Ashoka or mango leaves to the Kalash.
Wrap the coconut in red fabric and fasten it with Mauli, placing it atop the Kalash.
Position the Kalash amidst the clay where you have sown barley.
Alongside Kalash Sthapana, make a vow (sankalp) for the fast.
